Description:

In this course students examine religious conflicts in ancient Greece and Rome, including conflicts between Jews and non-Jews in the Hellenistic world, conflict between Christians, Jews, and Pagans in the Roman Empire, and the relationship of the Greek and Roman authorities to a variety of foreign and mystery cults. Students also examine the similarities and differences between ancient and more modern forms of religious conflict. This course may be counted towards Religion and Cultures.
