Description:

The context of the kindergarten classroom is unique and the understanding of child development in the Early Years is essential to effective teaching. This course explores relevant learning theories, current research, policy changes and curriculum design for the kindergarten classroom. Teachers will explore the potential of families, members of the community, early childhood educators, and teachers to inter-connect effectively to support the Early Years child. This network provides a strong foundation for intellectual, physical, social and emotional development and nurtures lifelong positive attitudes toward learning for the Early Years learner. Curriculum expectations, methodology, essential elements and resources for Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs, will be examined from an integrated studies perspective with a hands-on, real-life application approach to learning. Successful teachers will be recommended for the Ontario College of Teachers Additional Qualification CH ED.
