Description:

Teacher candidates explore the absence of culturally appropriate and sensitive assessment materials and methods and the resulting under-identification of First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) students as gifted and the over-identification of FNMI students as disabled. Candidates examine issues in special education for FNMI students from theoretical and practical perspectives, and explore current practices, policies and research regarding FNMI learners in a variety of settings, including First Nations schools and provincial schools.
