SWLF 3007 History of Social Welfare
Prerequisites:Any 24 credits completed
Hours:Three hours of lecture per week for one term.
Description:This course surveys the origins of public welfare in England, with an emphasis on the old poor law, settlement laws, Speenhamland and the new poor law of 1834. Attention will then be given to the development of social welfare in the United States and Canada from the colonial period to the present day. This course may be credited towards History.
