Description:

Students study the art, architecture, and archaeology of the ancient world. The art-forms that students focus on include temples, precincts, dwellings, administrative buildings, theatres, stadia, grave sites, frieze and free-standing sculpture, pottery, stonework, mosaics, and wall painting. Students learn how the artistic output of Greece and Rome was influenced by earlier Near Eastern traditions, and how it in turn has influenced much subsequent Western art and architecture. This course may be credited towards a Major in Fine Arts (Art History and Visual Studies stream).
