3Description:
Students explore the theory and practice of Ancient Greek and Roman rhetoric through a study of famous speeches (in translation) from Greco-Roman politics and courts of law. Students also study ancient theories on the most effective use of voice, gesture, rhythm, and structure, situating these techniques in their relevant ancient contexts, while also learning how these techniques have influenced later Western rhetorical practices and politics. This course may be credited towards English Studies.
