Description:

Students examine drama and performance in ancient Greece and Rome. Students read selections from the tragedies of Aeschylus, Euripides, Sophocles, and Seneca, and from the comedies of Aristophanes, Menander, Plautus, and Terence in translation. Students also focus on relevant historical and literary contexts, the conventions and logistics of staging performances in ancient Greece and Rome, and the impact these seminal genres have had on subsequent Western culture. This course may be credited towards English Studies.
