CRJS 2306  Taking Criminological Theory to the Movies

Prerequisites:

CRJS 2086

Hours:

Three hours of lecture per week for one term.

Credits:

3

Description:

Academic criminology has traditionally ignored the cultural representations of crime in film, even though these crime films inform and reinforce most people's understanding of the criminal justice system. Using 'cultural' or 'popular' criminology as a starting point, students will critically analyze crime films through the lens of criminological theory. Students will learn to put criminological theory into practice, and will use the analytical language of formal criminology to better understand the cultural significance of a variety of crime films.
