BBA-Finance Stream


Bachelor of Business Administration

Graduation Requirements:

In addition to the program requirements listed below, students must also satisfy the Bachelor of Business Administration degree requirements, which include regulations on first year and subject maximum and breadth requirements. Please refer to the Degree Requirement section for further information.

 


Program Requirements:

To graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) or a Bachelor of Business Administration (four-year), students must complete 120 credits, including core requirements as outlined below. Students may also complete a concentration, along with their core BBA requirements. Available Concentrations are as follows: Accounting, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Leadership, Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and International Business.

Students completing the BBA (Honours) must achieve a minimum average of 70% in the program. Students completing the BBA (four-year) must achieve a minimum average of 60% in the program.

*Students registered in the Accounting Concentration may substitute ECON 1006 and ECON 1007 with ADMN 1007. Students who choose to do this are required to take three additional credits of electives.
 
**Students enrolled in the BBA (Honours) must complete these credits at the 4000 level. 

***Students may choose to use some of their electives to pursue one or more of the additional options below.

Co-op Option

To complete the Co-op Option with the BBA, students require a minimum of 3 work terms of 12 weeks each (minimum 420 hours each work term), in work placements. Work placements may be either 4 months or 8 months in length. In order to remain in Co-op, students must maintain a minimum average of 70%. In order to be eligible to enter Co-op, students must have a minimum average of 70%. Students in the BBA program can apply for the Co-op option at any time and can proceed on their first Co-op work placement after successful completion of 24 credits of BBA program requirements.

Note that the program must begin and end with a study term, that is, a student’s program schedule cannot end in a work term. Students completing the co-op option may have to complete their degree over 5 years. When registered for a Co-op course, students may register for one additional 3-credit course. A student wishing to enroll in two courses, total of 6 credits, during their Co-op term must obtain approval from the Employer and Director, School of Business.

**Students must complete three credits as follows:

ADMN 3403 Work Placement I (Co-op) 1 cr.
ADMN 4403 Work Placement II (Co-op) 1 cr.
ADMN 4404 Work Placement III (Co-op) 1 cr.
**Before beginning their first work placement, students must complete a minimum of 24 credits of BBA Degree program requirements

Note:

Students are limited to no more than 39 credits of advanced standing from the Canadian Securities Institute/Institute of Canadian Bankers courses.

It is recommended that students include ACAD 1601 in their first 30 Nipissing credits. ACAD 1601 will count towards three credits of the Humanities requirements.



Finance Concentration

In addition to the core BBA requirements, students must complete the following 18 credits:

Nine credits from the following:  
ECON 2017 Money, Banking and the Canadian Financial System 3 cr.
ECON 3127 International Financial Management 3 cr.
FINC 2116 Management of Financial Institutions 3 cr.
FINC 3907 Insurance and Risk Management 3 cr.
FINC 4116 Fundamentals of Financial Derivatives 3 cr.
FINC 4706 Financial Portfolio and Wealth Management 3 cr.
FINC 4917 Entrepreneurial Finance 3 cr.
MATH 3286 Mathematics of Finance 3 cr.
