Description:

Recognizing families as the first educators of their children and homes as rich sources of language and literacy, teacher candidates explore strengths and needs of diverse families and family-school partnerships that enhance student achievement and well-being. Candidates interrogate beliefs, preconceptions, and assumptions that underlie parent engagement practices and policies in order to interrupt potential power imbalances and develop meaningful, practical, and empowering ways to engage, support, and empower families from school entry to graduation.
