Description:

Attitudes and beliefs surrounding the virtues of sex and love have changed dramatically over time and across cultures. Moreover as two of the most central aspects of human life and human experience, both sex and love have variously been seen as either ways to the divine or impossible obstacles. This course offers a critical engagement with a range of philosophical and religious ideas which have shaped both Western and Eastern understandings of the role of sex and love in human relationships and human societies. Particular attention will also be paid to the way these concepts are inseparable from gender ideologies. This course is also offered as PHIL 3205 and RLCT 3205.
