Description:
When the Earl of Rochester wrote of Charles II “His scepter and his prick are of a length, / And she may sway the one who plays with t’other,” he offered an explicit, but not uncommon, assessment of a wayward England in the 1670s. Through a selection of verse, prose, and drama students will explore the various hopes, disappointments, plots, and revolutions that followed the Restoration of the Stuart monarchy in 1660.
