Prerequisites:

Six credits of 2000 level ENGL (excluding ENGL 2001, ENGL 2011) or any 45 credits completed (excluding ENGL 1501, ENGL 1502, ENGL 2001, ENGL 2011).

ENGL 3145

Three hours of lecture per week for one term.

Description:

Students examine a selection of British poetry, prose, and fiction from the mid-1830s to the end of the nineteenth century, commonly known as the Victorian period. Through a close examination of each text in the context of the cultural discourses in which it was produced and received, students gain a better understanding of the literary responses to social, intellectual, and political upheavals.
