NURS 3036  Culture, Diversity and Nursing Practice

Prerequisites:

NURS 3706, NURS 3017, NURS 3116, NURS 3516, with a minimum grade of 60% or SAT, MATH 1267

Antirequisites:

NSGD 3036, NSGD 3336

Restrictions:

This course is restricted to students in the on-campus BScN program or the on-campus RPN-BScN program

Hours:

Three hours of lecture per week for one term.

Description:

Students examine the influence of culture and other forms of diversity on client responses to health, health challenges and the provision of nursing care. Topics will include racism as a determinant of health and anti-racist health care practice. Cultural diversity assessment with particular emphasis on Canadian cultural groups and the use of these assessments in planning and implementing culturally congruent care is explored.
