Graduation Requirements:

In addition to the program requirements listed below students must also satisfy the Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) degree requirements, including regulations on first year and subject maximum and breadth requirements. Please refer to the Degree Requirement section for further information.


Program Requirements:

Students must complete 120 credits, including the following 63 credits in Social Work:

Year One:

SWRK 1006 Foundations of Social Work 3 cr.
Social Science or Professional Studies 3 cr.
Humanities *   6 cr.
Science   6 cr.
Electives **   12 cr.

*It is recommended that students include ACAD 1601 in their first 30 Nipissing credits. ACAD 1601 will count towards three credits of the Humanities requirement.

CRJS 1087 Introduction to the Canadian Criminal Justice System 3 cr.
CRJS 1206 Introduction to Canadian Law 3 cr.
GEND 1006 Introduction to Gender, Power, and Justice 3 cr.
NATI 1005 Madjitang, in the Beginning … An Introduction to Native Studies 6 cr.
PSYC 1106 Introduction to Psychology I 3 cr.
PSYC 1107 Introduction to Psychology II 3 cr.
SOCI 1016 Introduction to Sociology 3 cr.
SWLF 1006 Introduction to Social Welfare and Social Development 3 cr.

Year Two:

In year two, students take courses which will enable them to continue on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree, should they not gain admittance into the professional years of the BSW.

It is recommended students consult the Academic Advising office for course selection for both year one and year two in the BSW degree program.

NOTE:

During the second year of the Bachelor of Social Work program, students must apply for admission consideration to the professional years. Admission to the first or second year of the Bachelor of Social Work program does not guarantee acceptance into the professional years. Year Three (Professional Year)

SWRK 3106 Social Work as Transformative Practice 3 cr.
SWRK 3206 Communication, Theory and Practice 3 cr.
SWRK 3306 Individual Practice Across the Lifespan 3 cr.
SWRK 3406 Aboriginal Communities and Métis Nation 3 cr.
SWRK 3506 Anti-Oppression Theorizing 3 cr.
SWRK 3606 Aboriginal Child Welfare 3 cr.
SWRK 3706 Working with Children and Families 3 cr.
SWRK 3806 Community Practice in Northern and Rural Communities 3 cr.
Plus six credits from the following list of SWRK electives:
SWRK 3007 Social Change and Social Action 3 cr.
SWRK 3107 Violence Against Women and Children 3 cr.
SWRK 3207 Social Work Practices in Mental Health and Addictions 3 cr.
SWRK 3307 Social Work: Selected Topics 3 cr.

Year Four (Professional Year)
