Master of Environmental Studies/Science
Thesis Program Requirements
In this option, students will complete four (4) 3-credit courses and write a Thesis worth 12 credits. The program is noramlly completed within two years.
Students in the Thesis option complete the following:

Masters Thesis (12 credits) |
|
Students in the Thesis option complete a thesis, which involves primary research and makes a significant contribution to scholarship. Students are encouraged to publish the results arising from this work in a refereed journal. The Thesis must be defended before an Examination Committee.
Speaker Series/Graduate Conference (0 credits)
All students are required to participate in the regular program speaker series and to present their research at an academic conference, either at Nipissing University or elsewhere.
MRP Program Requirements:
In this option, students complete six (6) 3-credit courses and write an MRP (Master Research Paper) worth 6-credits, normally within one year. Students in the MRP option complete the following:

Major Research Paper (MRP): (6 credits) |

Students write an MRP constituting either an original literature review or limited primary research. This paper is evaluated by the supervisor and one other member of the graduate faculty, but is not subject to an oral defence.

Degree Requirements
To graduate with a Master of Environmental Studies/Master of Environmental Science degree, students must:
- satisfy all stated requirements for the degree;
- complete the specified courses, with a minimum overall average of 70%, and a minimum grade of 70% in each course after no more than one attempt;
- not have failed more than one course (failed grades are not counted in the average);
- complete the program of study according to the time-to-completion guidelines in the School of Graduate Studies Regulations document.
