3Description:
In this introduction to Canadian history students learn the multiple legacies, but particularly settler colonialism, capitalism, and democracy, of British rule in northern Turtle Island (North America). Students learn how British colonizers selectively drew on, built on, exploited and worked to destroy what preceded the start of their rule in the mid-1700s: the environment, Indigenous nations, and existing colonial settlements. Much of the idea of Canada today derives from this effort and incorporates its contradictions.
