Description:

Students examine the political network of Indigenous nations in the Great Lakes region who joined together in 1763 to stop unilateral British actions in their territories. Thirteen Indigenous nations launched coordinated attacks against eleven British forts, destroying eight and immobilizing three. Obwandiyag’s War forced the British to acknowledge Indigenous sovereignty in the Treaty of Niagara. While often forgotten, this historical resistance remains pertinent in Canadian courts today.
