HIST 2036  Trade, Commerce, and Economy in the Ancient World

Prerequisites:

Six credits of 1000 level History or 24 credits completed.

Description:

Students learn about the history of ancient economies, paying special attention to the history of commerce, trade, currency, and banking in ancient Greece and Rome from the Archaic Period to the Decline of the Roman Empire in the West. Students examine the differences between ancient and modern economies and learn to situate economic activity in antiquity in its broader social, cultural, and political contexts.
