Specialization in Sociology

Graduation Requirements:

In addition to the program requirements listed below, students must also satisfy the Bachelor of Arts (four-year) degree requirements, which include regulations on first year and subject maximum and breadth requirements.


Program Requirements:

Students will need to achieve a minimum 60% average in the 54 credits presented for the Specialization in Sociology.

Students must complete 120 credits including 54 credits in the Specialization as follows:
SOCI 1016 Introduction to Sociology 3 cr.

SOCI 2016 or

SOCI 2017

Exploring Social Conflict and Solidarity or

Communication, Power, and Capital

3 cr.
SOCI 2126 Introduction to Sociological Research Methods 3 cr.
SOCI 2127 Quantitative Research Methods 3 cr.
SOCI Upper level   42 cr.

Breadth Requirements and Electives:

ACAD 1601   3 cr.
Humanities   3 cr.
Science   6 cr.
Electives   54 cr.

Anthropology Stream

Students pursuing a Sociology program have the option of completing an Anthropology stream. In addition to the required courses for an Honours Specialization, Specialization, or Major in Sociology, students must complete 18 credits for the Anthropology Stream as outlined below:

ANTH 1006 Introduction to Anthropology 3 cr.
ANTH 2006 Ethnographic Imagination 3 cr.
ANTH 3407 Contested Concepts: Power & Perspective 3 cr.
Plus:    
Nine credits in Anthropology or cross-listed courses with Anthropology

Note:

A maximum of 6 credits of cross-listed courses may count toward a Specialization in Sociology.
