Description:

Students will examine housing and homelessness within social, political, economic, and historical contexts. Topics covered may include federal, provincial, and municipal housing policies; social services and emergency shelters; low-income and supportive housing; the daily survival strategies of homeless people; the use by the homeless of public spaces, such as parks and land for tent cities; and issues related to race, gender, youth, mental health, substance abuse, family violence, welfare ""reform,"" legal aid, and human rights.
