Description:

Students examine representations of women in mainstream and alternative cinema, as well as the contributions of women behind the camera. Topics may include theories of spectatorship and identification, the gendered gaze, and intersectionality within feminist analysis. Film selections may range from Classic Hollywood cinema, to 1980s feminist video art, to contemporary national and international films. This course may be credited towards the Major in Fine Arts (Art History and Visual Studies stream). This course is also offered as FILM 2336.
