Education (EDUC) - Issues in Mathematics Education

EDUC 5247  Issues in Mathematics Education

Three hours of lecture per week for one term.

Students examine issues associated with mathematics education such as mathematical literacy (including numeracy) within the various levels of schooling; cross-curricular integration; equity; problem-based learning; student collaboration; the role of instructional technology; balanced assessment; professional development for teachers; and historical/contemporary trends in mathematics teaching and learning. Since discussions and assignments will focus on issues, a specialized mathematics background is not a prerequisite for this course.
