Description:
Students learn about the history and form of the lullaby in English and translation. They employ skills of close reading to analyze the lullabies as poetry. They engage in placing lullabies into a historical context, and explore the question of why lyrics addressed primarily to crying babies often evoke scenes of violence, suffering, and death.
