Prerequisites:

12 credits of History with at least three credits at the 2000-level; or any 54 credits completed.

Antirequisites:

HIST 3226 as offered in FA 2015-16 and WI 2013-14 and FA 2018-19

Hours:

Three hours of lecture and tutorial per week for one term.

Description:

Students examine the history of rural places and people in Canada. Over the last two centuries local, household production in farming, logging, mining and fishing has changed to producing for the market. Students consider the effect of this change on work, gender, neighbourhood and community life, environment and other aspects of rural life and reflect on the place of the rural in Canada today. A field trip to a local rural place is very likely
