Description:

Students examine evolving views of children and childhood, with the primary focus being the developing conceptualization of children as bearers of rights, full citizens with entitlements and responsibilities. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is the focal point of discussion and debate in this regard, and the course provides students with the opportunity to employ the Convention as an instrument of critique, assessing levels of commitment to children in Canada and around the world.  This course may be credited towards Social Welfare and Social Development.
