Description:

This course will examine legislation, policies, programs, and practices in the field of child welfare, critically assessing these in relation to the needs and rights of children and the well-being of families. The history and evolution of approaches to child welfare, the factors shaping developments in the field, and central issues and debates, will be explored. In addition, the present paradigm of social work practice in child welfare will be considered, and suggested alternatives examined.  This course may be credited towards Social Welfare and Social Development.
