Description:
This course is an historical selection of Canadian literature from the colonial period to 1914. Course readings may include fiction, poetry, drama, criticism and nonfiction as well as other forms. Authors taught may include Susanna Moodie, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Pauline Johnson and Stephen Leacock. Students develop an understanding of Canadian “literary tradition,” while critiquing the processes by which this “tradition” is constructed.
